Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata is organizing a Training Programme on Library Automation (TPLA): emphasizing on digital and audio-visual media from 31st May to 3rd June 2018. The main objectives of the Workshop are

• To create awareness among professionals about open source technology & its application in library.
• To make the library professionals technically sound so as to automate their library independently without any support & also to develop the online application with the help of Content Management System.
• To enable the Library & Information Professionals to face the technological challenges such as installation, data migration, multi- branch handling etc.
• And, to strengthen the society & professionals.

Workshop Theme

The main theme of the workshop is to provide theoretical foundation as well as hands-on training keeping in mind the rapid development in the field of IT to the academic and library and information professionals. The workshop intends to cover the essential concepts and technologies for smooth functioning and building a Smart Library. A true hands-on training will be imparted to all the participants enabling them for installation and running some of the essential open source software in their libraries or information centres.

Koha: Koha is the first Open Source Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) that can take care of all library activities such as Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serial Control & Online Public Access Catalogue. Koha is based on International library standards and protocols (such as MARC21, Z39.50 etc.) that ensures that Koha data can be exchanged between similar ILMSs. & any other library management system. Dspace: DSpace is popular software to develop Institutional Repositories (IR) . It allows an IR in any format – in text, video, audio, and data. It indexes your work, so users can search and retrieve your items. It preserves your digital work over long term. DSpace provides a way to manage your research materials and publications in a professionally maintained repository to give them greater visibility and accessibility over time. Target Participants

Library and IT professionals, Students of LIS, Research Scholars, LIS and Computer Science professionals can attend this workshop. Participant should have the basic knowledge of computer handling, installation of application software.
