This silent film unfolds a lyrical tragedy of a rape victim and a mute dwarf and their quest for love sexuality and vengeance in a forlorn island. ‘ADHARA’ means silenced in Sanskrit. This film is about silenced and marginalized sexuality. The film has two protagonists, a woman who is brutally raped and a mute dwarf who is also sexually endangered in the social frame of manliness. And their quest for love and vengeance begins in a forlorn island. In this battle for survival of human instincts and sanity the film’s silent, dark, and lyrical approach along with the characters puts forward the feeling of helplessness, a feeling which plagues us in this time. This film is not an account of crime and punishment but a more profound tale of human infirmity and the core of obscurity. |
