SRFTI Empowers Alumni & Faculty Through Producing Films

The Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (Deemed to be University) not only is the film school now but also initiates film production for the alumni and faculty.

SRFTI opened the application window for the alumni and faculty to submit their thoughts. 31 January ’26 was the end date. After a few months of an in-depth selection process, the selection board selected 9 talented filmmakers.

This is big news—eight alumni and one faculty member just landed spots as filmmakers for this initiative.

This round, four full-length feature films and five short non-feature films will get made. Prof. Sudipto Shankar Roy, Ashok Veilou, Krishnakant Borah, and Ramkrishna Soren are tackling the feature films. On the short film side, Suchana Saha, Aniket Kumar, Akshay Varshney, Vrushab Maitri, and Abison Yumnam are set to bring their ideas to life.

That’s a huge boost for anyone trying to break into the Indian film world. This institute keeps pushing talent forward, always finding new ways to nurture creativity and help the community grow.

The whole thing runs with backing from the National Film Development Corporation, plus SRFTI’s guidance and support from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. Basically, it gives filmmakers real chances to turn their imagination into movies that matter. What’s even better, the initiative lets SRFTI’s creative energy spill over—alumni, students, and faculty all get to jump in and collaborate, chasing their own growth and goals.

This is just the beginning; the next drive will resume shortly. Where the fortunate filmmaker could get the same opportunity with SRFTI.

Every time something like this happens, SRFTI just proves again it’s one of India’s top places for film and TV. The institute keeps lifting up new directors, writers, cinematographers—really, anyone ready to tell stories their own way.

For aspiring cinema professionals searching for film institutes with industry opportunities, filmmaking support programmes, and creative mentorship in India, SRFTI continues to stand as a powerful platform where talent meets opportunity.

At SRFTI, storytelling is more than education—it is a journey toward cinematic excellence.
