Learning Beyond Borders: The SRFTI–ZeLIG Exchange Programme
Learning Beyond Borders
The SRFTI–ZeLIG Exchange Programme Is Shaping the Next Generation of Global Filmmakers
Cinema thrives when stories cross cultures, and filmmakers grow when they learn beyond boundaries. The global nature of storytelling is where cinema lives. Filmmaking happens when learning happens everywhere.
Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) is pushing the boundaries further by offering students a SRFTI-ZeLIG International Exchange Programme at the ZeLIG School for Documentary, Television and New Media in Bolzano, Italy. This programme is geared toward equipping students for a new world of global filmmaking.
The exchange programme presents students with an unparalleled opportunity to work alongside international students in a collaborative environment, through documentary filmmaking, field shooting, workshops and cross-cultural exchanges. Students gain valuable experience by working jointly on projects at an international level. Furthermore, they have the chance to discover a world beyond the classroom by honing their skills, sharing unique stories, and forging friendships.
One of the most exciting elements of the programme was the insightful and energetic Q&A session led by Prof. Sukanta Majumdar, the Head of Department, Sound Recording & Design at SRFTI. Discussing the film Nocturnes, he provided the students with in-depth knowledge of sound recording techniques and cinematic sound design. The session inspired students to take their storytelling beyond what’s visual and into the realms of sound.
SRFTI is increasingly engaging in such exchange programs with various national and international institutions, demonstrating its commitment to world-class film education and innovation through cross-cultural dialogue and collaboration. This international exchange program stands as a tangible reflection of that commitment. Such exchange programs not only enrich students’ technical knowledge but also instill the confidence needed to succeed in the global film arena.
Education at SRFTI goes beyond filmmaking techniques; it’s about expanding one’s worldview through global collaboration, so stories with a worldwide resonance can be told. The SRFTI-ZeLIG Exchange Programme embodies this ideology, cultivating young, globally-conscious storytellers.
A new experience anywhere gives a new perspective – and a new perspective can change the world.
