Moinak Guho
A Direction & Screenplay Writing alumnus of Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) and an M.A. (Gold Medallist) in Film Studies from Jadavpur University, Moinak works across fiction, documentary and hybrid cinematic forms. His films have been screened at international festivals including MIFF (Mumbai), IDSFFK (Kerala), VGIK (Moscow), Imagine India (Madrid), Laceno d’Oro (Italy), Nottingham Arts Mela (UK), Pame International (Nepal) and Bengal Biennale, among others.
His diploma film, An Irrelevant Dialogue, received Best Director and Best Actor at IFFSA Toronto, Best Cinematography at FSF Munich, Ritwik Ghatak Silver Award at SASFF Kolkata, Jury Mention for Short Fiction at Cut.In TISS Mumbai, and other Best Short Fiction awards. It subsequently streamed on MUBI India for eighteen months under its New Voices category. He’s received grants from Films Division, India, and the Experimenter Generator CAP Artist Fund.
As Assistant/Associate Director, Moinak has worked with Naeem Mohaiemen (Those Who Do Not Drown), Nishtha Jain (The Golden Thread), Sourav Sarangi (Fair-Home Fairy Tales) and Krishnendu Bose (Bay of Blood), and has co-written films with Joshy Joseph, Anirban Datta, Dhiraj Banerjee and Bauddhayan Mukherji, among others. He has directed over twenty commissioned documentaries for NGOs and corporates.
His interdisciplinary practice includes work in performance and visual arts: he served as Project Coordinator & Assistant Director for Stephanie Thiersch’s ‘Hello to Emptiness’, Project Coordinator for Wim Wenders’ King of the Road – India tour (Kolkata chapter), and Co-Curator/Organiser of TENT Biennale 2025. A participant in the EUFF India Script Lab, he has worked as a script reader, consultant and mentor. Alongside teaching at SRFTI, he is developing a mixed-media documentary and his debut feature screenplay.
