Sounak Kar

Sounak is an independent filmmaker from West Bengal and an alumnus of Direction and Screenplay Writing department in Satyajit Ray Film and
Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata. He has made films in various languages like Bengali, English, Hindi, Nepali, Nyishi, Galo, Apatani and Mandarin. His SRFTI diploma film, “Sex with a monk and other stories” was screened at several major festivals of India and won the Audience Choice Award at Contact International Students Film Festival of Izmir, Turkey in 2017.
He worked as a faculty at Film and Television Institute of Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh and wrote, directed, shot and edited two independent feature films in collaboration with the indigenous people of Arunachal. The first feature, “Peta Dochcho”, which is also one of the first Galo language feature films, was listed in the top 50 films nominated for the FIPRESCI India Grand-prix 2022.
He is the editor of the feature length documentary, “High tea” (directed by Abhra Aich) which received the IDFA Bertha Fund for development in 2017. He also wrote and directed a commercial Bengali comedy web series, “Fish and Chips”, for OTT platform.
