Melody Matters: The Narrative Functions of Indian Film Music
by Dr. Suman Ghosh

Dr. Suman Ghosh is a Reader in Film and Media and Subject Leader for Film and Television, with teaching and research specialisms in Global Film Cultures, Politics & Film, and Film & Media pedagogy. He holds a PhD in Film from Lancaster University, an MBA from Bath Business School, an MA in Comparative Literature, and a B.Sc. in Physics.

As a film historian and commentator, he has published his work as essays in refereed journals, book chapters, and mainstream platforms, with a particular focus on the cinema of Satyajit Ray, which were the subject of his doctoral research. He led a series of public events marking Ray’s centenary in 2021, including invited talks at the London Indian Film Festival and IFFSA, Toronto.

Beginning his career as a news reporter, he remains a strong advocate for industry-partnered teaching and learning and is a committed champion of sustainable Creative Arts and Humanities curricula in Higher Education.
