Ritwik Ghatak Birth Centenary Celebration at SRFTI: A Tribute to the Master of Empathy

Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) proudly commemorated the birth centenary of Ritwik Ghatak, the legendary filmmaker, writer, and thespian whose work continues to shape Indian cinema. To honour his legacy, SRFTI hosted the Ritwik Ghatak Memorial Lecture, delivered by the acclaimed cinematographer Sunny Joseph. His talk, titled “Cinema of Empathy – A Journey from Ghatak to AI”, explored how Ghatak’s humanist vision resonates in today’s digital era.

The lecture was followed by a special screening of Subarnarekha, a restored masterpiece directed by Ghatak himself. The evening illuminated the timeless relevance of his storytelling, drawing students, faculty, and film lovers alike.
