Shyamal Karmakar (Professor & Head of the Department)
Academic qualification: Post graduate diploma in editing from FTII, Pune
Industry experience: Worked with eminent directors like Kundan Shah, Saeed Mirza, Vidu Vinod Chopra. Edited the award winning feature film Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, directed a feature film Ranu for Children’s Film Society of India, made well acclaimed documentaries like Kimvadantiyan, Setu, I Am the Very Beautiful, Unprotected Brothers.
Awards: Special jury award in 12th International Children’s Film Festival; SP. Jury Award, SIGNS’06, Trivandrum, IDPA Award, 2007 (2nd Best DOCU), Silver Conch at MIFF2006.
His documentaries have been shown in festivals like Kara Film Festival (Pakistan), YLE(Finland), Oberhausen(Germany), Split Films Fest(Sweden), Documentarist (Istanbul) Croatia, Mexico, International Video and Film Festival of Kerala’09, VIKALP’07(Mumbai), JEEVIKA’08 (Delhi), FTII & National Film Achieve of India, Berlin Film Festival.
Debashis Guha (Associate professor)
Academic qualification: Post graduate diploma in film editing from FTII, Pune
Started his career in PLUS CHANNEL, Mumbai as Senior Video Editor; worked with renowned directors like Shyam Benegal, Mani Kaul and many others. In Kolkata, he has been the Post-production in charge in WEBEL MEDIATRONICS. In 1999 he worked as a Chief Editor for an Indo-Hollywood production called Night Fall in association with Rojer Corman & Ramoji Rao Production. He worked as an editor for many award winning feature films and documentaries. He has directed and edited many documentaries, shorts, Ads and corporate films, telefilms and television programs. He has co directed with Gautam Ghosh a documentary project on development of Asian Rural Women from south east Asian countries. He co-directed and edited Shadows of forgotten Melodies in 2008, a documentary on 1000 years of traditional music produced by NHK, Japan.
Shantanu Pal (Assistant Professor)
Academic qualification: B.Sc from Calcutta University; Post graduate diploma in editing from SRFTI, Kolkata.
Industry experience: Worked as an editor in Doordarshan, Kolkata and as editor in charge for a satellite channel; as a freelance editor he has done many fiction and non-fiction projects for television.
Teaching experience: Served as a Lecturer in Editing at St. Xavier’s College in the Department of Mass Communication and Videography. He conducted workshops and Lecture sessions for various media institutes and is empanelled as a examiner/paper setter forWest Bengal State University(Film Studies Department), Roopkala Kendra(an Institute of Film and Social Communication, Government of West Bengal) etc.
Saikat Shekhareshwar Ray (Assistant Professor)
Academic qualification: Post graduate diploma in editing from SRFTI, Kolkata
Industry experience: Worked as the chief editor with a number of well-known directors, in projects commissioned by National and International television channels and funders. He has been the editor for “Hope Dies Last in War” a Swarna Kamal(National Award) winning film directed by Supriyo Sen. He has also edited films commissioned by Al-jazeera network, NHK, ITVS, Fokus, Finland and YLE. Apart from mainstream documentaries, he also has edited a number of Ads and corporate films.
Teaching experience: Joined the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in 2006 as a faculty in the Film Editing Department. In 2009, he joined the St. Xavier’s College as a lecturer in the Mass Communication and Videography Department.

Somdev Chatterjee (Assistant Professor)
Academic qualification:Post graduate diploma in editing from SRFTI, Kolkata
Industry experience: Was associate director and cameraperson on Bilal, directed by Sourav Sarangi. Directed the documentaries The Student Headmaster and Drugged to death, which were commissioned by the Al Jazeera network. Has written scripts for several television programs.
Taught at the Film and Television Institute of India from December 2006 to March 2008.
