Call for Fellowship Applications

Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata invites application from Indian nationals for Independent Research proposal on Indian Cinema, Electronic and Digital Media.
 

Eligibility Duration Abstract Deliverable
1. An Indian national
2. Must have a Post graduate degree / diploma
3. scholars, researchers and practitioners; specific aspects of media, culture and society
Six months Total fellowship amount for each applicant: Rs1,00,000/-. Amount will be disbursed in 3 equal installments @ Rs. 30,000/-. after evaluation of interim reports on 2nd & 4th month and final submission of project after 6 month. Maximum of Rs. 10,000/- may be reimbursed at the end towards contingency expenditure (i.e. purchase of research related books, pen drive etc.) as per actual submission of bills. 1. Each month, the applicant has to submit a report on progress of the research and subsequent write up by email.
2. Applicant has to present his paper/ research / audio-visual in a seminar organised by SRFTI at the end of the programme.
3. Applicant has to submit the hard copy and soft copy of his/her paper / write up / audio-visual at the end of the programme.

 
Conditions:

1. Applicants are required to be resident in India, and to have an account in any bank operating in India.
2. Applications can be in Hindi or in English. The research work and presentation should be in English.
3. Fellows will be required to submit two interim reports at the end of 2nd and 4th months and final submission of an article of 7000 words including endnotes and references, or an audio-visual material of 10-15 minutes duration along with a write up of 7000 words including endnotes and references during the final presentation of the research project at SRFTI.
4. The fellowships do not require the fellows to be resident of SRFTI.
5. If required, the shortlisted candidate may be interviewed over skype / telephone.
6. Outstation candidates will be provided 2AC rail fare (both way) only for final presentation at SRFTI. A fixed taxi fare for local and outstation candidates will be reimbursed accordingly.
7. Existing students and faculty members of SRFTI cannot apply.

Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata is organizing Hands on Workshop on Library Discovery System (LDS) from 19th December to 22nd December 2019.The main objectives of the training programme are

• To create awareness among professionals about open source technology & its application in library.
• To enable the Library & Information Professionals to face the technological challenges.
• To provide a single window approach to the segregated resources those are available in a library.
• To provide library clients with a universal search and discovery experience and thereby saving them in running from pillar to post in search of relevant resources.
• And, to strengthen the society & professionals.

Theme of the Training programme

The main theme of the training programme is to provide theoretical foundation as well as hands-on training keeping in mind the rapid development in the domain of library automation and digitization.

The following topics will be covered:

• Koha – advanced cataloguing, OAI/PMH based data exposure, ILSDI based content negotiation
• Digital Media Archiving – Resource exposure from DSpace, Omeka, Islandora and Greenstone
• Discovery interface – Integration of resources from different information blocks in VuFind

Target Participants

Librarians, Working professionals and research scholars in the field of Library and Information Science, Information Specialists, Faculty members of Library and Information Science, Officers under the Central or State Government or Union Territories, interested academicians, and other disciplines may attend this advanced training programme which will be very effective to run and use modern library.

Prerequisite of the Participants:

Basic knowledge of Ubuntu (or any Linux flavour), LAMP architecture, Koha and DSpace (operational level).

The intensive and advanced training programme on Library and Information Science helps to earn-
 API score as per UGC guidelines.

Press release for ISFFI

Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute(SRFTI) in collaboration with VigyanPrasar is organizing 5th International Science Film Festival of India (ISFFI) from 6 – 8 November 2019 at SRFTI campus. ISFFI seeks to promote science popularization among citizens and aims at attracting talented young filmmakers and science enthusiasts. The film festival offers an opportunity for students and other participants to get involved with the process and improve their understanding of various feats in science and technology.

Internationally acclaimed and award winning foreign and Indian films on science health and environment will be screened during the festival. A competition for Indian independent and student filmmakers will be organized on the theme ‘Research, Innovation & Science Empowering Nation’. Filmmakers will be facilitated with IISF Science Film Awards. Two feature films, ‘Mission Mangal’ and ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’ will be screened. There will be special screening of films on 1st Indian Scientific South Pole Expedition at 2009 followed by discussion with scientists. A day long Symposium titled ‘Packaging of Science for Public Interest’ and panel discussion on various aspects of cinema and science communication will also be the part of the festival.

Several eminent personalities like BuddhadebDasgupta, R. Balki, A. K. Bir, KaushikGanguly, Piere Oliver Francois, Abhishek Sharma, parthaGhose, Rama Marinov Cohen, BikashSinha, Kornetzky Brigitte Ute, Andreas Van De Lar, Kartik Sharma, Chris Godwin, Li-Yu-Fu, Lovita J R Morang will be present during the festival
